Overview
The Adventist Home is a rich compilation of Ellen G. White's counsel on marriage, family, and the Christian home. Part handbook for busy parents and part portrait of what a home can and should become, it gathers her wisdom on every stage of family life: choosing a life partner, the sacredness of marriage, the relationship of husband and wife, the training and discipline of children, family worship, finances, recreation, and the home as a light in the community. Above all it presents the home as God intended it -- a little heaven on earth, the first school, and the truest test of Christian character. Its counsel is both practical and deeply spiritual, pointing families to make Christ the center of the home.
Purpose & Background
This volume was prepared to bring together, in one accessible place, Ellen White's scattered counsel on the home and family, so that parents and young people could find clear answers to the questions that trouble them. The compilers believed that conditions in society are a reflection of conditions in the home -- and that a change in the home will be mirrored in a changed society. The book was sent forth as part of the Christian Home Library to strengthen families and, through them, the church and the world.

The Adventist Home was compiled in the office of the Ellen G. White Publications and first published in 1952, decades after Ellen White's death in 1915. In keeping with her written instruction to her trustees to provide for the printing of compilations from her manuscripts, the editors drew excerpts from her writings across seven decades -- books, pamphlets, testimonies, manuscript files, and especially the thousands of articles she wrote for the church's journals -- with source credits given for each chapter.
