Discipleship

Saturday's Reflection
Luke 9:23 — And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
This week we looked at what genuine discipleship costs and what it produces. Lottie Moon gave away her food, her money, and eventually her health to the people of China — denying herself so completely that she died at fifty pounds, and her sacrifice became one of the most fruitful missionary offerings in history. The disciples on the shore walked away from a boat full of fish — the best day of their working lives — because Jesus said follow Me, and they found that He was worth more than the catch. Andrew Murray lost his voice for two years and discovered in the silence that abiding in Christ produces more fruit than all his preaching had. And Jesus Himself said plainly: without Me, you can do nothing — not struggle, not produce less, nothing.
Discipleship is not a programme or a season of life. It is the daily decision to deny self, take up the cross, and follow. It is choosing, every morning, whose agenda this day will serve. It is staying connected to the vine when the temptation is to run on your own resources. And it is trusting that the fruit Jesus promises — the kind that remains, the kind that glorifies the Father — will come not from our effort but from our connection to Him.
On this Sabbath, rest in the One you are following. Discipleship is not only about what you do. It is about who you are with. And today you are with the Good Shepherd, the True Vine, the One who says — come to Me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest. Rest well.
"In becoming His disciples, we surrender ourselves to Him with all that we are and have. These gifts He returns to us purified and ennobled, to be used for His glory in blessing our fellow men." (Ellen G. White, Christ's Object Lessons, p. 328)
Prayer: Father, thank You for the privilege of following Your Son. This Sabbath we rest in the relationship, not just in the duty. We are Yours — daily, willingly, completely. Amen.
