Walking in the Spirit

Sunday's Reflection

Galatians 5:16 — This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Last month we spent four weeks exploring love, unity, and forgiveness—the relational heart of Christian living. But here lies the great question: where does the power to actually live this way come from? We cannot love our enemies, forgive those who wound us, or maintain unity with difficult people through sheer determination. Human willpower runs dry. Good intentions collapse under pressure. The Christian life was never designed to be lived in our own strength—it was designed to be lived by the Spirit of God dwelling within us.
This week we explore what it means to walk in the Spirit. Paul uses the word "walk"—not a sprint, not a single dramatic leap, but a daily, steady, step-by-step movement in dependence on God's Spirit. We'll discover that the Spirit-filled life isn't reserved for spiritual giants or extraordinary believers. It's the normal Christian life, available to every believer who learns to yield, to listen, and to follow. From Paul's call to be led by the Spirit to Jesus' promise of the Comforter, from the early church's transformation at Pentecost to the Spirit's work of conviction and guidance, we learn that empowered living begins not with greater effort but with greater surrender.
"It is not through human power or human wisdom that souls are to be saved, but through the power of God. The Holy Spirit is waiting to work through you. Will you give Him full control?" (Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 7, p. 272)
Prayer: Holy Spirit, we confess that we have too often tried to live the Christian life in our own strength. Teach us to walk in step with You—yielding our will, trusting Your guidance, and depending on Your power moment by moment. Amen.
