Walking in the Spirit

🎧 Listen to Today's Devotional

Friday's Reflection

Acts 1:8 — But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Before His ascension, Jesus didn't give His disciples a strategy, a budget, or an organizational structure. He gave them a promise: power. The Greek word is dunamis—the root of our word "dynamite." Not the quiet, steady power of a river but explosive, world-changing capacity. Eleven frightened men who had just watched their Lord be crucified could never have turned the Roman world upside down through human ingenuity alone. They needed something beyond themselves. And that is precisely what Pentecost provided. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead now filled ordinary fishermen, tax collectors, and working people—and through them, shook civilization.
Walking in the Spirit is never purely private or internal. The power given at Pentecost was always outward-facing—for witness, for mission, for reaching those who had never heard. As we yield to the Spirit this week, we must remember that His purposes extend beyond our personal sanctification. He equips us to speak, to serve, to reach our own "Jerusalem"—family, neighbors, coworkers—before moving outward. On this Friday, the eve of Sabbath, it is fitting to reflect quietly: where is the Spirit calling me to witness? Who in my immediate world needs to see the reality of a Spirit-filled life? The power is already given. The witnesses are already appointed. The question is simply whether we will walk in what we have already received.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the promised power of Your Spirit. May we not hoard it for our own comfort but let it flow outward in witness and service. Give us eyes to see our Jerusalem—those nearest to us who need to encounter You. Amen.
