Resurrection Power

Tuesday's Reflection
Ezekiel 37:4-5 — Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.
God took Ezekiel to a valley full of bones. Not a graveyard — a battlefield. These were people who had died violently, left unburied, bleached and scattered. Ezekiel says they were very dry — meaning there had been no life here for a long time. Then God asked him one of the strangest questions in the Bible: "Can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered carefully: "Lord, You know." Which is the honest answer when you are standing in a valley of impossibility.
God told him to preach to the bones. That seems ridiculous. Bones cannot hear. But Ezekiel obeyed, and as he spoke, something began to happen. A rattling sound — bones finding bones, skeletons assembling. Then flesh and skin covering them. Then breath. Then a standing army. What had been a valley of death became a valley of life — not because of anything in the bones themselves, but because the word of God went into them.
The application God gives is personal — this valley represents people who say "our hope is lost." People who feel so far gone, so long dead to the things of God, that resurrection seems impossible. God's answer is the same as it was to Ezekiel: I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live. This is not addressed to people who are doing fine. It is addressed to dry bones. If you have ever felt like your spiritual life was a valley of scattered, bleached bones — this vision is for you. God specializes in that kind of valley. He is not discouraged by how long it has been or how completely things fell apart. He just needs a voice willing to speak His word into the silence.
Prayer: Lord, breathe on us. Whatever has become dry and lifeless — our prayer, our faith, our love for You — speak into it. We are not beyond Your reach. Make us live. Amen.
