Spiritual Warfare
🎧 Listen to Today's Devotional
Sunday's Reflection
Ephesians 6:12 — For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Most of our problems look like flesh-and-blood problems. A difficult person. A health crisis. A financial pressure. A relationship that is tearing. We direct all our energy at the visible thing — the person, the situation, the circumstance — and wonder why nothing seems to change. Paul says that behind what we can see, there is a battle we cannot see. The real war is not with the person who is making life difficult. It is with the forces that are using that situation to pull us away from God, to discourage us, to make us give up or give in.
This is not an invitation to see demons around every corner or to be obsessed with the enemy. In fact, one of the enemy's cleverest tricks is to keep us focused on him rather than on God. But it is an invitation to be realistic. The Christian life is not a gentle stroll with occasional mild inconveniences. It is a conflict. And the people who fare best in conflict are not the ones who pretend there is no battle — they are the ones who know what weapons they have and how to use them.
This week we will look at what spiritual warfare actually involves — not dramatic confrontations with the supernatural, but the daily discipline of standing firm. Putting on armor. Praying with intention. Knowing the Word well enough to fight with it. Not panicking when the pressure comes, because we already know who wins in the end.
"We are in a world where everything is tending to bring about the very crisis that Satan would have. The great adversary of God and man is constantly at work to deceive, that he may lead souls astray. He works in secret, yet his work is seen in its results. We are not to be ignorant of his devices." (Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 294)
Prayer: Father, open our eyes to the battle we are in. Not to make us afraid, but to make us awake. Give us the wisdom to know how to stand, the courage to stand firm, and the confidence that You have already secured the victory. Amen.
