Spiritual Warfare

Saturday's Reflection

Ephesians 6:13 — Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
This week we have been looking at spiritual warfare — not as a frightening topic but as an honest one. The battle is real. Gudina Tumsa knew it in Ethiopia and stood anyway. Nehemiah knew it in Jerusalem and built and guarded at the same time. Wang Mingdao knew it in a Chinese prison and repeated his own name and his loyalty every single day for twenty years. Jesus knew it in the wilderness and answered every attack with the written Word of God. All of them were doing the same thing: standing. Not conquering in some dramatic sense, not eliminating the enemy from the field. Just standing — holding the ground that God had given them, refusing to be moved.
Paul's final instruction in Ephesians 6 is not a battle cry. It is almost understated: having done all, to stand. Do everything you know to do — put on the armour, pray, stay alert, know the Word — and then stand. That is the goal. Not victory in the sense the world uses the word, with dramatic triumphs and final scorecards. Victory in the sense that when the pressure came, you were still there. Still belonging to God. Still on the right side of the line.
This Sabbath, we rest in the fact that the ultimate outcome of this war is not in question. Christ has already won. What we are doing in our individual battles is not deciding the war — it was decided at the cross. We are simply holding our piece of ground until the day when the King returns and the whole field is His. That is enough. Stand firm, rest well, and trust the One who has already secured the victory.
"The followers of Christ are to be channels through which God can send light and healing power to the world. Nothing is so helpful in strengthening the character as close contact with the Source of all power. The armor of God is the only protection against the assaults of Satan. Prayer is the key in the hand of faith to unlock heaven's storehouse." (Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 94)
Prayer: Father, thank You that the war is already won. On this Sabbath, we rest in that — not passive, but secure. We put on the armour again tomorrow, we keep the sword ready, we stay alert. But today we rest in the Victor, and in the unshakable fact that nothing can separate us from You. Amen.
