Faithful to the End

Saturday's Reflection
2 Timothy 4:7 — I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
This week we looked at what it means to be faithful to the very end. Polycarp, after eighty-six years of serving Christ, could not deny Him even to save his life, because his finish was the fruit of a lifetime of daily faithfulness. Helen Roseveare suffered terribly on the mission field and yet returned to keep serving, refusing to grow weary in well doing. And the Scriptures showed us how to run our race — laying aside every weight, running with patient endurance, fixing our eyes on Jesus — while reminding us that the God who began a good work in us is the One who will complete it, and that a crown awaits all who love His appearing.
As this week closes, so does a whole year of walking through the Scriptures together. Over these months we have considered the foundations of faith and prayer and the Word; we have stood at the cross and the empty tomb; we have learned to walk in the Spirit and to bear His fruit; we have been shaped in humility, service, and the inner life of the heart; and we have lifted our eyes to hope, to Christ's return, and now to the call to finish well. It has been one long journey with a single destination — to know Christ, to become like Him, and to be found faithful when He comes. The themes have changed week by week, but the goal has been the same throughout.
On this Sabbath, rest — and take heart for the road ahead. The race is not yet finished for any of us still running it, but we do not run alone, and we do not run in our own strength. The same God who has led us through this year is the One who will carry us all the way to the end. So rest today in His faithfulness, and rise tomorrow to keep running your course with patience, your eyes fixed on Jesus. One day the race will be over, the crown will be given, and the long-awaited King will appear. Until then, be faithful. Keep the faith. And finish well.

Prayer: Father, thank You for walking with us through this whole year, and thank You that You will not leave us until the race is run. As we rest this Sabbath, renew our strength for the road ahead. Keep us faithful in the daily things and steadfast to the end, until we too can say we have kept the faith. And bring us at last to the day when we shall see our King. Amen.
