Hope of Christ's Return

🎧 Listen to Today's Devotional

Sunday's Reflection

The blessed hope of Christ’s return has sustained believers through the darkest nights of human history. It is not a doctrine born of fear but a promise rooted in love—the assurance that Jesus Himself will return to end all pain, wipe away every tear, and reunite us with Him forever. This hope is the anchor of the Christian faith, the climax of the gospel story, and the ultimate fulfillment of every promise God has made.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people have lived with their eyes fixed on eternity. Abraham looked for a city whose builder and maker is God. Moses chose to suffer affliction with God’s people rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin, for he looked to the reward. The early church greeted one another with “Maranatha”—“Our Lord comes!” This same hope empowered the faithful of every generation to endure persecution, resist compromise, and live with courage in a world overshadowed by uncertainty.
As we begin this week, we are reminded that the Second Coming is not only a future event to anticipate but a living reality that shapes our faith today. Every sunrise points to His promise, every storm reminds us that this world is not our home, and every act of faith brings us closer to the day when Christ will appear in glory. To live in hope is to live with purpose—to keep our hearts ready, our hands faithful, and our eyes fixed on Jesus until He comes again.
“The second coming of Christ is the great hope of the church, the grand climax of the gospel.” (Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 632)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the blessed hope of Your return. Strengthen our faith as we wait, and help us to live each day in joyful readiness for Your appearing. May this hope fill our hearts with peace and our lives with purpose until we meet You face to face. Amen.
