Wednesday's Reflection
Matthew 24:44 — Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Being ready for Christ's return is not a routine kind of preparation, like packing for a journey or planning for an event. It is a continual state of heart—a daily walk of trust, obedience, and faithfulness. Readiness is not driven by fear of the unknown, but by love for the Saviour who promised to return. To be ready is to live close to Christ today, so that tomorrow will never take us by surprise. Jesus warns us not because He wants us to live in anxiety, but because He wants us to live in constant communion with Him, making choices each day that reflect our eternal hope.
When the 2004 tsunami struck Southeast Asia on December 26, life changed in an instant. Families enjoying a peaceful morning by the beach had no warning of the massive wave approaching. Within moments, over 230,000 people across 14 countries stepped into eternity. Entire communities vanished. Yet among the overwhelming tragedy, countless testimonies emerged of believers who lived each day with their hope firmly anchored in Christ. They faced that sudden disaster with peace that defied human understanding. Their security was not in their beachfront homes, their vacation plans, or their physical safety—it was in their relationship with Jesus. One survivor later testified, "I lost everything that morning except the one thing that mattered most—my faith. I was ready, not because I knew the wave was coming, but because I had been walking with Jesus every day."
True readiness is not a last-minute scramble or a desperate attempt to get right with God when we sense danger approaching. It is a steady, daily walk with God that prepares us for whatever may come—whether Christ's return, sudden tragedy, or simply the ordinary challenges of life. Readiness means living today with eternity in view, making decisions that honor God, treasuring relationships over possessions, and keeping our hearts tender toward His voice. When we walk with Jesus daily, we are always ready, because readiness is not about perfect performance—it is about abiding in Him.
Prayer: Lord, teach us to live in daily readiness for Your return. Keep our hearts faithful and our lives rooted in Your will. May Your Spirit guide us each day so that when You come, we may be found waiting, watching, and rejoicing in Your presence. Amen.
